Alone- Edgar Allan Poe personality type is INFP, which means it's an idealist with an inferior complex. They are always aware of what is wrong with the world and wish there was a way to fix everything. And while it's true that Poe was an alcoholic, it's also true that he was a very sick man. His wife, Virginia, told him to cut down on drinking and he did, but he never stopped drinking completely. He even drank while writing his stories. But his stories and the themes he explored are so powerful that they transcend his alcoholism. He wrote so many stories on the idea of death, in particular, that I think he was driven by some sort of need to explore the mysteries of life and death without being overwhelmed by it. Poe actually believed that "a man should be as careful in choosing a career as in choosing a wife." [ source ] Some of his poems were written on suicide. He believed that "all men are created equal" but in reality, no one was created equal. Some people are born into wealth and some are born into poverty, but plenty of people are born into the middle class and lots of people are born into poverty.
