Furui Kyo (furui “blue”, 数京 “number city”, Japanese for “blue city”) is a town in Ishikawa Prefecture, on the island of Honshū, Japan. It has about 24,500 people. The Furui Kyo International Airport is located in the town.
The name of the city comes from the fact that it was founded during the Edo period. It was founded in 1571, around the time when Hideyoshi Toyotomi was preparing for a campaign against the Southern Court. It was built on the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who wanted to make a place of strategic importance on the route of his military advance.
