While he was a senior in high school, his father died of stomach cancer. After that, Yoon's mother came to a realization that it was time for him to become an actor. Yoon graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in interior design.
He joined the TV entertainment program "Star Happy New Year" (literal title) in the early 1990s. Yoon played the role of the male main character Seo Hae-won, who was an heir to a Japanese dynasty, in the dramas "Boys Over Flowers" (2001-2002) and "Boys Over Flowers II" (2003-2004). Both dramas were broadcast on MBC every spring.
