In the Chinese version of the story, Li Yao's real name is Li Jian (李簡). Shiki intended for the character to be an INTP. However, due to the fact that INTPs are rare in China (where Shiki is from), he decided to alter Li Yao's personality type to ENTP to make him more "relevant" to Chinese culture.
The story begins with Li Yao, who has a talent for magic. He lives in a town called Qingyang (青陽; pinyin: Qīngyáng), and serves as the town's doctor. He meets a girl named Ji Ying Lan, who is his former childhood sweetheart. The manga then focuses on their romance and love for each other.
The manga was serialized in "Manga Action". The final volume was published on May 30, 2008. It was compiled into nine bound volumes.
