In an interview with BuzzFeed, Ichinose said she was inspired to play a character that's more relatable as a result of the recent celebrity trend of portraying film characters as real people.
"I thought, 'I can be Nao Okada,'" she said. "I think a lot of people can relate to her. I think a lot of people at some point feel like, 'I'm more like Nao Okada than I am like the actress playing me.' It's something that I've realized from being an actor for so long, and being a fan of anime and manga."
