If you are an artist, you might also have the "hierarchy of needs" (see table), which means you have emotional needs and also physical needs, such as food and shelter, and then there is the work itself. You need to be able to express yourself, be creative, and to make a living. But you also need to be able to take care of yourself after a hard day's work.
The artistic personality type is not always recognized as a type. For example, it is commonly held that although there is a type for artists, more people are actually more artistic in some way: they are more open-minded, more imaginative and more creative. This is not uncommon. Being artistic can have many meanings.
An artist may be a painter, a writer, a musician, or an actor or actress. In all these cases, the expression of the person's creativity is what makes them an artist. An artist may also be someone who paints pictures for a living, but also someone who paints pictures for their own enjoyment (such as modern art).
