When the INFP gets stuck, they tend to do one of two things. Either they get stuck in their own head, and end up judging themselves too harshly or inconsistently. Or they try to force themselves to care about someone, but they don’t feel genuine compassion towards that person, so they end up being fake, or they end up just being mean.
It’s hard to be genuinely kind and loving towards yourself when you’re putting so much pressure on yourself to be compassionate with the people around you.
So, if you have an INFP friend who’s struggling with compassion, what can you do? How can you help them?
I think the best thing you can do is encourage them to be gentle with themselves. If you catch them trying to push themselves to be compassionate, remind them that it’s okay for them to be compassionate, and it’s okay for them to feel overwhelmed.
