Ginebra Vega is best known for his work with the Latin American Institute of Intercultural Studies (LAIS) in Havana. He has been called "the father of the modern Latin American studies" and is considered one of the main intellectuals of the post-revolution era in Cuba. He also co-founded the journal "Cuba Socialista", which was a major outlet for socialist ideas in Cuba during the 1960s and 1970s, and was a member of the Cuban Academy of Social Sciences.
Ginebra Vega wrote three books, the most famous being "The Psychology of Revolution" (1949). This book was first published in English as "Revolution and Personality" (1970, edited by L. S. Veysey), and later translated into Spanish under the title "El Psicología de la Revolución" (Madrid: Editorial Siglo XXI, 1984).
Ginebra Vega was a member of the Cuban Communist Party from 1941 to 1961. In 1961 he left the Communist Party and became a member of the Unified Socialist Party of Cuba (PSUC).
