Both the manga and the anime (in the form of the Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu short) made it clear that Subaru was an INFP in his youth. In the manga, he is described as being "soft-hearted" and even "cute".[4] He was also described as being "submissive" and being "very much like a girl" to Emilia.[5]
In the anime, at first, he is described as being "weak" and "emotional" in contrast to Emilia. Subaru's relationship with Felt is described as being that of a "subordinate" relationship,[6] which was confirmed by the anime's director to be the case.[7] However, in the Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu short, Subaru's personality comes across as a "childlike" one.
