Pikkon / Paikuhan is part of the "Asuka" family of characters, but he is actually based on the Japanese mythological character Hikohachi. Hikohachi is the son of the Japanese god Izanagi and Izanami, but he was stillborn. Izanagi was so angry at being able to create a child but being unable to give him life that he threw the child into the sea before his wife could see him. However, Izanami was able to see her son's spirit floating above the water. She then took the child to the shrine of his parents, asking for them to give him life.
