“Chae Yi-do” is a character from a Korean drama entitled “Hwang Jin-yi or the Woman Warrior” (Hangul: 황진이 왕국의 변호사). The drama tells the story of a medieval warrior queen who united the kingdom after her husband, the king, was murdered by his brother. In order to have him killed, his brother invented a false theory that the king’s wife was having an affair with her uncle. After her husband was murdered, the queen took control of the kingdom and became one of the most powerful and influential women in Korea.
In the drama, she is called “Chae Yi-do” which is a combination of “Chae” (백) meaning “Wise” and “Ha” (하) meaning “Great”.
