Voyager 1 personality type is INFP, as are very many of NASA’s leading space scientists and engineers. But the majority of the Voyager team was MFP, as was I.
When NASA selected the Voyager 1 spacecraft to send a message back to Earth, they were looking for a group of creative individuals who knew how to think. They wanted people who were able to imagine how our culture might change when we sent a message into deep space. They wanted people who were willing to think about the future and imagine what else we might learn to do with our technology as an intelligent species. They wanted people who were interested in exploring the unknown and discovering what they could discover.
The best way we can explore our universe is through science. Science is the most powerful way we have of discovering what is true. Science is not just about pure logic, or pure math, or pure science, it is about exploring the unknown, and that is what the Voyager team did.
I believe that all of the Voyager messages are scientific discoveries. When we look at Voyager 1 on its way out of our solar system, we are looking at a scientific discovery.
