Jonah is a supporting character in my novel “Memento Mori.” He is compassionate and tender, however, his peace-loving nature prevents him from standing up for himself and others. He is passive and submissive when it comes to evil and goes along with what others want to protect himself. He values safety and security and is willing to sacrifice his morality to achieve such. Although he is a good person, his cowardly nature prevents him from expresses his true empathetic nature. Over the course of the novel, Jonah, at last, begins to stand up for the defenseless once he realizes the error of his past ways. In an attempt to redeem himself, Jonah elects to protect others rather than himself.
