Xaine is the protagonist of my novel “Lucid Dreams.” His adolescence was controlled by his mental illness, and after being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, his parents forfeited custody of him. Xaine has a fierce imagination, and uses maladaptive daydreaming as a coping mechanism. Unable to cope with life’s hardships, Xaine forms multiple realities in his head to live vicariously through instead. Because of this, he struggles to tell the difference between dream and reality. He is often see as a problem child, but in reality is a nice person, only sarcastic with a deep-rooted mistrust in authority. Xaine is motivated by a child-like sense of justice. After watching his and his friends lives screwed over, Xaine vows to get his revenge, sacrificing his morality. He can be cunning and manipulative when needed, but is typically a generous and caring young man. Xaine is also extremely intelligent, only refusing to apply himself unless he is interested. He is a natural leader and caretaker.
