I then tried to find more information on them, and realized that my childhood was not a childhood at all, but a fantasy.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “How can this be? You grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn!” To which I say: No. No, I did not. And yet, here we are, and here we will stay.
I just wanted to know why I had such a vivid imagination. Why was my entire childhood based on a dream that wasn’t mine at all? I had just finished reading The Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin, and it seemed like the perfect book to read on the topic of dreams and the surreal nature of the imagination.
