Dawson based the character on her younger self, who she said was a “rebellious young woman” who “wanted to leave the house and be a rock star” in her twenties. Dawson said she thought that the main reason Alvarez became a YouTube celebrity was because she was “just kind of annoyed with the world and wanted to have a voice.”
“I was always someone who said what I thought, and I always had an opinion,” Dawson said. “I just decided that I would use my platform to help other women find their voice, as well.”
