He always denied this affair was the reason behind his death, and the Army has not commented on the inquest.
The inquest heard that Villiers had been drinking heavily at the time of his death, and that he had been found by his comrades to have been drinking excessively before deployment and during his time in Afghanistan.
Villiers was found in the early hours of June 2, 2010 inside the Afghan National Army base at Sangin. He had died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
