Bijan Kamkar (Persian: بیژن کامکار, born December 19, 1958) is a musician and singer of Iranian traditional music and a member of the Kamkar group. Bijan Kamkar has been included in the list of living human treasures by the National Registration Committee of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Iran as a bearer of cultural heritage. He is one of the founders of Sheida and Aref groups
Perhaps his most important role in Iranian music is to introduce the daf instrument to public performances for the first time. When he was a member of Sheida, at the suggestion of Mohammad Reza Lotfi, he used the daf instrument in one of the group's concerts, which was met with great success by the fans. Today, the daf is one of the most important instruments in Iranian music groups and many musicians work in this field. Previously, the daf was used only in dervishes' religious ceremonies in monasteries and not in Iranian bands.
