It was the early 1900s. A steam engine was pulling a railway car up a steep hill. When the engine reached the top of the hill, the train stopped and a person got out of the car. The person walked down the track and the engine started to move again. He then walked back up to the top of the hill and started down the track again. The engine continued up the hill and stopped at the top again. The same thing happened over and over again until the engine stopped short of the top of the hill. The person got off and walked back down to where he had been when he had started out.
The person was obviously frustrated by what he was doing and his efforts began to show in his facial expression. He was also becoming angry because he could not make progress in accomplishing what he thought should be easy for him. It was obvious that he would get nowhere because he never did make progress.
