Max is a starving rookie magician. He gets himself in bad situations alot because his magic tricks always go wrong and aren't the most orthodox, but with his charm and wit he is able to figure out a way to escape the awkward situations and his rivals. He is constantly pondering on the meaning of magic and what is it about. The reason why he started performing magic is because he worries about how others percieve him when he is on a stage he feels like he is someone else, invisible, out of this world. He starts working as a train conductor in a train station to support his magic gigs but upon meeting his childhood friend and showing her a trick he accidentally makes the train behind him disappear and spends a journey looking for the train to be sure if he teleported it elsewhere or really made it disappear becaus ehe believes that question will answer him what magic is about.
