As the name implies, Ultraman Gaia serves as the ultimate defender of Earth against destructive aliens. He is usually seen flying in his gigantic robot form, but he does not rest until he has defeated his enemies, which is why he is constantly in motion. Gaia is the only one that can hold back the Dark Spark, which causes all evil in the universe. He often fights Zetton and the Dark Spark, which is usually in his hands.
He is also an incredible fighter. He was able to fight with the Shinobu Alien in the original Ultraman series without any trouble.
