You know what, I've been thinking about this for a while now and I think I've come up with an explanation.
I think some people have an inferiority complex about their intelligence, so they compensate by pretending to be dumb. They do this for a number of reasons; for one, dumb people are easier to get along with, and two, it allows them to feel superior to the smart ones.
Takiyama is definitely a mysterious individual, yet he’s still one of the more ordinary students at the same time. He’s a laid back and quiet kind of guy, he’s funny and actually very friendly… but something about him still makes people uncomfortable for some reason. He has excellent insight when it comes to class trials and investigations and he actually seems to understand the killing game scenario better than everyone else.
