    George Fitzhugh (1806-1881) was an early social theorist and philosopher from Virginia, known for his avid defense of slavery. Fitzhugh was unique amongst his peers in advocating slavery not only for blacks, but also for poor whites as well. His staunchly anti liberal views have caused some to view him as an early predecessor to the ideals of fascism.
