A new study by researchers at Uppsala University reveals that it’s not just governments and political figures who can be nominated for this prestigious award. Every year, hundreds of people—from presidents to small business owners—are nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The study analyzed 57,000 nominations between 2006 and 2016 and found that the average year in which someone’s name was submitted for the Nobel Peace Prize was 2009. The average number of names submitted per year was 382, with an average of 3 per day.
In the United States, the average number of nominees per year was 594, with an average of 2.4 per day.
William Barret "Buck" Travis (August 1, 1809 - March 6,1836) was a 19th-century American lawyer and soldier. At the age of 26, he was a lieutenant colonel in the Texas Army. He died at the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. Travis Country and Travis Park were named after him for being the commander of the Republic of Texas at the Battle of the Alamo.
