Instrumentation tends to be more vibrant. Mainstream examples would include Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom. More pure examples of the genre however, would include Watain, Dark Funeral, and Dissection. It sometimes goes by the derogatory term "Norsecore", however I think Melodic Black Metal is a better term, and one that should be used more than it is.
