The first thing that comes to mind when someone says the word "pyrite" to me is a small green rock with a brilliant flash of color in the sun. I don't know why. It’s probably from my early childhood when I was fascinated by rocks and minerals. I loved collecting them, watching them in a museum, and buying small pieces for pocket money. I also loved watching television shows about science, especially ones about space exploration. These shows often featured small green rocks on the moon, or on Mars, that would glow with an intense light. The word "pyrite" was always used or implied in those shows to describe these rocks. What an interesting word!
I was also fascinated by the history of science and technology, especially the different eras of human technological development. Most of my early interest was in the ancient world and the Middle Ages, but I also had a fascination with the Renaissance and the scientific revolution. I liked learning about the great scientific minds and how they changed the world.
