Alice the Fox personality type is ESTP, so I can see how he might be a bit of a hothead. But even so, if he is really an ESTP, I doubt he would have been so impulsive and stupid as to fall for such a scam.
I did some web searches and it did seem that Ellison did get into some legal trouble in his later years and he did serve jail time, which is one more reason for him to be the mysterious character we know him to be. It would not be unusual for an ESTP to get arrested and be jailed for some reason or another.
