My INTP, ENFP, and INTJ friends all agree that Nieman is the most INTP-like of the Nieman sisters. Nieman was inspired by his mother, a former dancer and choreographer. She was one of the founding members of the Dance Theatre Workshop in New York City, the first modern dance company in the United States. Nieman's mother was considered a "choreomaniac" by her peers and once said, "I am a choreomaniac. I am obsessed with movement, with making people feel better and more alive." Nieman's mother also suffered from bipolar disorder.
When he was young, Nieman would spend hours watching his mother choreograph or dance for herself. He became fascinated by how she used her own body as a vehicle to express herself. He became a dancer himself and studied at the American Ballet Theatre School in New York. He was eventually hired as a dancer for the American Ballet Theatre and toured internationally with the company.
