Marshall grew up with a single mom and was raised by his grandparents and uncle. His grandparents were very liberal, so he was exposed to all kinds of different people and ideas. His grandmother had a bottle of LSD that Marshall would go see and play with.
“My grandma had all these really weird books, like ‘Abnormal Psychology’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,’” Marshall says. “I was always reading it, and I just thought, ‘Wow, this is all this stuff could be.’ It made it seem more real than just what you see in a movie.”
Marshall’s interest in the weird was only further fueled when he was an art student at NYU.
