“This was my way to have an identity apart from my family. This was my way to stand up for myself and be strong.”
She had her own business selling clothes at the age of 15, and later worked as a makeup artist at a beauty parlor in Puerto Rico.
“We were making the makeup for the models, for the commercials and for the runway shows,” she said. “It was an amazing experience because it gave me the opportunity to make people happy.
“People love to be made up. This is the best thing to do in your life. You learn a lot about what people like and what they don’t like.
