Zuckuss personality type is ISTJ, and the only thing he sees in the film is the "dynamic"--the conflict between Solo and the Wookiees, and between Han and Leia, and between Leia and the Wookiees. He doesn't see anything else. He's not a creative person. This is not a criticism of him as a creative person, but it is the most creative thing about him. He is a creative person at what he sees.
Since his view of the movies is narrow, he cannot see the whole picture. Since he is not a creative person, he can't see that there was much more to it than that. That's why the film failed. It was not dynamic enough to satisfy him. Only he can see that. But I don't think Lucas is a creative person. I don't think he sees things in terms of conflict. I think he sees things in terms of emotion. That's why he keeps doing the same thing over and over again! He's not creative enough to be creative! He's just a good storyteller.
I don't think Lucas is creative at all, but I do think he's an expert storyteller who knows how to play on people's emotions.
