Ross has said that if "Glee" had been around when he was in high school, he would have tried out for the show. Inspired by Darren Criss' audition for the role of Blaine, Ross attended an audition where he sang "I Feel Pretty." He was thrilled when he got the role of Mr. Schue.
Ross got his start in musical theater after his parents decided to homeschool him in 2005, when he was in seventh grade. When he was 12 years old, he began performing in schools throughout the Atlanta area. He auditioned for "The Pajama Game" in Atlanta in 2013 and was accepted into the program.
He attended The University of Georgia, where he majored in Latin, but dropped out in order to pursue acting full-time.
