In his famous essay "Comparisons are odious", Theodore Roosevelt spoke of the inherent problem with social comparison, which is that we compare ourselves to everybody around us, not just the people within our own circle of friends.
Roosevelt's point is not new. It's been around for a long time. We've been comparing ourselves to other people from a very early age. Even babies do it.
But what is new is that we have the internet now. With the internet, there is no limit to the amount of people you can compare yourself to.
This has led to a whole new set of problems.
Let's talk about some examples.
Example 1: Men and women are different, so I need to be different too.
