He wants to be like John Lennon, and so he's always being told how great he is. And he's always trying to prove it.
He wants to win Miss Teenage America, and so he's going around trying to get people to vote for him. He's got this big crush on a girl who's obviously not interested in him because she always rejects him. And he goes around trying to make her like him.
And the whole movie is that kid trying to be the perfect person.
But he's not a perfect person. He's just an ENFP. He's got this great imagination and creativity, but he's not very good at dealing with reality and hard work. He just wants to be free and creative and fun all the time.
And he can't do it. It doesn't work.
