Kramer attended college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, but dropped out after two years to pursue a career in broadcasting. He worked for WGN-TV in Chicago, but also worked for The National Broadcasting Company (NBC). Eventually, Kramer moved to New York City where he became a freelancer and was hired by WNBC Radio as an on-air personality.
