Mariko was born in Sendai, Japan, in 1969. She has two siblings, her brother and her sister. Her father was a famous guitarist; her mother was a housewife. Both of her parents were extremely supportive of Mariko’s desire to become a singer. As a child, she always dreamed of becoming a singer. She began taking singing lessons at the age of seven. When she was eleven years old, she recorded her first record. At the age of fifteen, she began going to foreign countries to perform. During this time, she had many different jobs such as babysitter, waitress and hostess. In her teens, she began singing with her band.
