Cookie Luvagetto personality type is ISTJ, and he was nicknamed "Old Man" by his children. Luvagetto said, "I had a lot of kids and didn't know what to do with them. So I just put them in the attic." Luvagetto's father was a tailor, and Luvagetto grew up with the idea of a career in the clothing business. Luvagetto started as a salesman for his father's business. He then started his own tailor business with two other men, and they had several shops in the Chicago area. Luvagetto was hired by QVC in 1991 to be their first fashion director. But he left QVC after only six months to work on his own fashion line, "Cookie by Luvagetto", named after his wife, Cookie.
In 2005 Luvagetto was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which caused him to retire from QVC and to sell his companies. He is now retired and lives in Naples, Florida.
In 2011, Luvagetto was inducted into the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame.
