Debbie’s life experiences have caused her to have a strong, nervous nature, which is reflected in the many ways she has manifested this personality type such as fear of heights, frequent nightmares, and her belief that she is being followed. When Debbie was first diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, she was told to take medication and get on with life. Debbie had been through many tests to rule out multiple personality disorders and the idea of a biological cause for her behavior was rejected. She was sent home to die.

    Debbie’s experiences with medication were not good. The drugs caused her to be more volatile and less able to express herself. She would only take her medication at night as it made her drowsy, but she would wake up in the morning feeling like she was on drugs. It took 6 months before Debbie felt better.

    Debbie started seeing a therapist, who recommended that she try a different medication. This time Debbie felt better and started an exercise program, which helped her feel more in control of her moods. This was a turning point in Debbie’s life as she now knew what had been causing her symptoms.
