Pirates often experience depression. This is because they are often self-employed and feel no obligation to the company and no security in their job. Pirates often feel that the company owes them something, or that they were mistreated by some person or persons in the company. In order to earn back the trust of the company and their customers, pirates often feel that they have to do something to regain the good will of their company and customers.
This might be putting up a good front and “performing” well. It could be trying to get the customers to like them more, or it could be a more aggressive form of marketing.
