Ayano personality type is ISTJ, or Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging. Ayano and her brother, Koyomi, are the sole survivors of their family and only have each other for company. Their parents died long ago, and their grandfather was a renowned exorcist who decided to raise them in his own peculiar way; he believes that there are things that are "demons" and will try to kill them. This is where the story begins.
Ayano, Koyomi, and their schoolmate, Kanon, are all in the same class. Koyomi is a loner and usually keeps to himself, while Ayano is outgoing and talks to everyone. Kanon is quiet and is friendly with all of her classmates. The three are friends, but they also have their disagreements. Koyomi often finds himself at odds with Kanon because of her friendly personality, while Ayano is hostile towards Kanon because she believes that she's "evil" because of her quiet and friendly nature.
Koyomi's other friends at school are Shirayuki and Yumeko. They're also in his class, and Koyomi sees them as his allies as well.
