I’m not sure if I can offer any advice to others, but I can certainly offer advice to myself. My writing process starts with a theme or idea. Everything else then comes from there. I want to keep the process simple and efficient.
I write down my writing idea in a journal. This is usually the first step. Then I put a notebook on my desk or on a notepad. I start taking notes, and this keeps me from getting in the way of the idea. I also find it very helpful to think about the topic of the story before I start writing it.
I try not to force ideas or themes. This is important for me. When I write something that doesn’t flow naturally, I stop, answer a question, then pick it up again when I’m ready.
