Ian personality type is INFJ, the only other type to be represented by a single character. "He's very outgoing and he's really funny," actress Kim Dickens, who plays Carl's daughter on the show, told TVLine. "He's also very nurturing and I think he's a great father. I think he's a good guy."
Carl, who was born in Alexandria, Va., has been portrayed as a kind of everyman character. "He's an everyman," Dickens said. "He's like the 'every man' character. He's a regular guy with simple tastes [and has] no pretense about him whatsoever."
In the comics, Carl has a dark past. While he was in college, he was a member of a cult that worshipped the Norse god Odin, according to the book Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale by Russell T Davies, which was published by HarperCollins in 2010. The cult members were also known as "nomas" for the name of their god.
"The nomas seemed to believe that they were not just members of a cult but followers of a god," Davies wrote in the book. "After all, the cult had its own language, rituals and god-like leader."
