Alexandre “Xande” personality type is ISTP, and I’ve found that to be the case. As long as we have those two “I”s, we can get through anything. ISTPs have a natural tendency to prioritize their own needs and desires, and so if they are in a negative mood, their first thought will be to reassure themselves. It’s important that we not hold grudges against them for this as this will only encourage them to do it again.
Even when we are hurt, we are usually not upset with our ISTP for what they did so much as we are upset with ourselves for being hurt by them. They may appear indifferent, but there is a lot of sadness in their voice when they talk about their ISTP nature. They don’t want to feel angry about it; that would be a threat to the self.
The hard truth is that there are some ISTPs who are very difficult to live with, and we may need to sever the relationship. This is not because the ISTP is intentionally being mean, but because they don’t understand how we feel. They have never been in our situation, and they are not interested in understanding what it feels like!
