“I’ve been very lucky to get to know my mother and my aunt through my sister,” she says. “One night, my mother was talking to me about something my sister had told her. I just burst out crying and said, ‘You can’t tell me that!’
“And they both said, ‘Yes, we are your parents and we love you.’ I realized that they do love me and I do have their support and they will always be there for me. I never really thought about them being my parents. I was always just thinking about my sister and how much I loved her.”
Ahmad has learned how to accept her parents’ support without becoming dependent on it.
