In both cases, the ego doesn't have much respect for the inner child, nor does it trust its perceptions.
This is one of the main reasons why the Winter personality type seems so cold and upset all the time. The ego itself can't trust the feelings or perceptions of the inner child.
The inner child is both real, and powerful. But it is also vulnerable and dependent on others; it is capable of being hurt, and therefore cannot be trusted.
The inner child needs to be loved unconditionally by the parent. And the parent needs to trust in the inner child, to give it of its needs unconditionally.
