Leavanny's first appearance was in "Pokémon Emergency!" where it was seen in a forest during a blizzard. It was then shown to have evolved into a Skitty in "Skitty Catastrophe!" when Ash and his friends witnessed a Pokémon show and then a Skitty show in which Leavanny was the star. In "The Evolution Solution", Ash used his Skitty to try to evolve into a Leavanny, but failed.
In "Piplup, Up and Away!", Ash and his friends got lost in the woods after their plane crashed and had to stay at a campsite. The next morning, Ash woke up to discover that his Skitty was missing, and it was soon found at the edge of the forest, having evolved into a Leavanny. It was then revealed that the Skitty that they had met the night before was actually a disguised Leavanny. It then proceeded to show them how it could use its vines to grab onto things. After watching it use this technique to catch a Piplup, Ash decided to keep it.
