"I don't think it's a personality type at all. It's more of a temperament," said Regina Corr, a counselor at the Institute for the Development of Personal Potential. "It would be like saying 'I'm an ENFP, I just have a very different personality than everybody else.'"
Corr said ISTPs are often described as "quiet" and "serious" by people who don't really understand them. But she said ISTPs can come up with creative solutions to problems, like the one that eventually led to the founding of the company.
"They can be real quiet about what they're doing because it's not glamorous or newsworthy," she said.
The ISTP is also known as the "Jack of all Trades, master of none." The ISTP's innate talents are varied and broad, but may not be apparent to the casual observer. This makes sense if you consider that ISTPs are often passive and prefer to observe before acting.
This natural introversion causes some to mistake the ISTP for a more passive type, such as an INFJ.
