But while the Myers-Briggs personality test has become a de facto prerequisite for entering the programming field, it is not always accurate or reliable. The test's creator, Isabel Myers, noted in an article for the New York Times in 2009 that her research indicated that it is "far from perfect."
"Myers-Briggs is a good starting point; it is not a good ending point," wrote Myers, who had died the previous year.
The Myers-Briggs test did not fare well in a study published in 2016 in the Journal of Personality Assessment by psychologists at the University of California, Irvine.
The study found that more than half of the participants did not fit the descriptions provided by their score on the test. Of those who did, more than 80 percent did not share their type with their friends or colleagues.
