Peter Madly personality type is ESTP, but I think that’s why I’ve had so much trouble with him. In the novel, he’s an ENTP who is also an ENFP. He’s a true-blue ESTP, but the different introverted and extraverted functions make him somewhat different than in the movie. Also, he’s a lot more of a jerk in the movie than he is in the book.
Foreshadowing and Theme
The theme of the novel is how people are shaped by their experiences. If a person goes through a hard experience, they might become someone different than they were before. I think of this as in a way that mirrors the structure of the movie. The movie starts with the “before” version of Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, and then goes into the “after” version of Charlie, Charlie, Charlie where he has learned his lesson.
And just like in the movie, the before and after versions of Charlie have distinctly different personalities. The before version of Charlie is upset, angry, and passionate. The after version of Charlie is mellow, relaxed, and content.
