Ty Teller personality type is ISFP, and that's what I get from the interaction between the characters. It's not like there are only ISFPs in the world, but ISFPs tend to be more in touch with who they are, and can react to their emotions and the mood of the situation. And what better situation than a funeral?
When one is in mourning, it's easy to feel trapped in the tragic words of the funeral director or the priest, when in fact we are free to leave, free to move on. On some level, we all know this. We all know that our lives do not "end" with death.
The ISFP I take from the funeral is that of a sensitive, emotional, perceptive individual who is not so much withdrawn from the world as he is just observing everything. He doesn't have to be present for the ceremony, but he can still feel all the emotions and see all the shades of green. He feels whether things are right or wrong, and is not afraid to tell others if they aren't. He's not easily hurt because he's so perceptive.
I could take some other personality types but I'm not so sure they fit John's ISFP.
